of the Apes (1968)

You
maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!
Taylor
escapes, and rides off into the sunset with Nova. It is here that
the "Planet of the Apes" makes its earth-shattering and sobering
revelation-- Taylor finds the upper half of the Statue of Liberty
on a deserted beach, proof that he had returned to Earth and the
'upside-down' world he found was a result of man's own idiocy.

| This
scene is often mistaken as having possibly been filmed in
Northern California. Charlton Heston's final escape and
his shocking discovery was actually filmed on a secluded
cove at the far eastern end of Westward Beach, between Zuma
Beach and Point Dume, Malibu. If you're bold and would like
to visit you'll have to climb over the sea rocks to the
east until you get to the quiet little beach surrounded
by cliffs. |

The
ape city and other various mountain scenes were also
filmed nearby on the Fox Ranch, in Malibu Creek State
Park, where M.A.S.H. and other movies and Television
shows were made.
