Gorilla
2.0
By Monica O.
Gorilla is a suite of software tools designed to assist the creative
individual in making a film, or a video. From Preproduction through
Production to Post Production, Gorilla contains everything the filmmaker
or videomaker needs to make a movie.
Who
designed it? Filmmakers, of course! Aaton Cohen-Sitt decided it
was time to make a film and he needed something to help him put
it all together. Why use Excel for a budget, Word for a character
list, and a contact manager software for contacts? He decided to
design a single, complete, seamlessprogram which makes it a snap
to get all your rescources with a couple of keystrokes -- hence
Gorilla!
Gorilla‘,
the indie feature production tool rapidly becoming popular among
emerging filmmakers, received a major upgrade with Jungle Software's
release of Gorilla 2.0. With over fifty new features, including
the ability to import screenplay information from Final Draft®
and Movie Magic Screenwriter®.
Gorilla
2.0 offers a host of features beyond traditional budgeting and scheduling,
such as the ability to track cast, crew, locations, rehearsals,
profit sharing, and even film festival submissions. The software
also allows for multiple budget scenarios, board swap, international
currencies with conversions, and production phases. It also comes
pre-loaded with 120 film festivals, replete with web site and contact
information.
Some
of my favorite new features are their easy to use pull down menus
and their pop up boxes that give you the information your looking
for quickly. You're also able to keep the crew and cast information
you've compiled for once project and use it on another with
ease.
I've
used other movie budgeting software programs but Gorilla 2.0 is
by far the easiest to get your budget from script onto paper. It
was so simple to upload my script into the Gorilla program and I
was able to begin working on my budget immediately.
Gorilla
2.0 has made what used to be a complex job very simple. They also
include an extensive 150 page manual that you can access and print..
Their
friendly, knowledgeable staff are just a phone call away and ready
to help you with any technical question you might have.
Gorilla
is available in three editions. The Pro Edition (retail price $399)
offers unlimited shoot days and budget. The Standard Edition ($299)
has all the features of the Pro Edition, but is limited to 48 shoot
days and a $500,000 budget, and the Student Edition ($199) is limited
to 14 shoot days and a $50,000 budget.
Gorilla
runs on Windows®, Macintosh® OS 9, and is the only complete
budgeting and scheduling solution that currently runs natively on
Macintosh OS X.
