R. Parks
Submited August 2003

R. Parks, from Bellingham Washington writes in after reading about
Brad's homemade camera support jib arm.

Dear Filmmaker's Central,

I read Brad's article regarding his homemade jib. It looks great, I built one of steel and aluminum 8 feet long to support a 30 lbs. Arriflex 16 BL camera here in Bellingham Washington.

The jib was used on 2 feature length films shot in Washington State. I also built a steadicam rig which we used on another indie film here. I'm planning to move to the LA area within 2 months to work on indie film projects and attend computer graphics courses. I won't be taking the jib with me, it weighs almost a 100 lbs. I am taking my Arri 16 BL and my steadicam rig with me. For questions and inquires about this homemade "Steady Cam", email R. Parks.

We here at Filmmaker's Central think his rig is great. Perhaps R. Parks should call his camera support a "ParksCam" or "ParkaCam" or maybe "ParksSteadierCam"...you get the idea.

As a disclaimer, let it be known though that a Steadicam is an Oscar-and Emmy-winning invention that revolutionized filmmaking. Steadicam is a trademarked registered brand name.

The original machine was called the "Brown Stabilizer" after the inventor Garrett Brown.
