SHERRY WAPLE & KRISTINA FOSTER
Submited May 2003

What does poultry have to do with prejudice? Everything!

Poultry and Prejudice is a clever short film project written by Kristina Foster and to be directed by Sherry Teleky Waple, both former Shoot Camp students.

In this social drama, Tess Darcy, a self-absorbed, local beauty queen prepares to enter her chicken, Heidi, into the Birdsville County Fair. The main event, the Poultry Show, draws people from all over the state and the competition is fierce.
The Darcy family has produced the prize-winning chicken in the show for the past ten years.
When Heidi goes missing, intense accusations and arguments reveal small town prejudices against people with criminal records, different ethnic backgrounds and problems with alcoholism. These people are all trying to start fresh, but carry a stigma, which lends itself to intense finger pointing.
Sherry Teleky Waple decided to join forces with Kristina Foster after Shoot Camp when her dreams of directing a film became reality. "I never thought I would have the knowledge I needed to make my own film, but Shoot Camp taught me what I needed to know and I feel confident that this film will be worth watching."
With financial support from her father, Alex Teleky, this 4-day shoot is currently in pre-production and is slated to be shot in August 2003. The film will be shot at her grandparents' 5-acre home in Middletown, PA, and will utilize her own horses in the film as well as family members for crew positions.

"Pre-production is the part of filmmaking that scares me to death!," Sherry states as she explains her frustration in trying to find the key crew members and dealing with all the tasks that have to be done. "You have no idea how many phone calls have to be made and how much haggling goes into getting the price you can afford for your equipment and cast."

Fortunately, Pennsylvania is a "filmmaker friendly" state and helps in as many ways as it can to make the filmmaking experience easier. However, any extra help anyone can offer, would be greatly appreciated.

One final note from director Waple: "Never give up your dreams, no matter what they are. Believe in yourself and your ability to make that dream come true, and it will."

Want to be part of this exciting short project? Sherry and her production team are based out of Harrisburg, PA. They're looking for the dedicated "We can do it" kind. Give her an e-mail shout at: Moviemkr55@aol.com.
